Chest 54; Gum-tree angel

This picture steps outside of my usual style, and well out of my comfort zone.  I find it disturbing but strangely beautiful.  It shows a gumtree about to fly away on mossy wings. A pale sun shines from above, or is it the moon? A sinuous eucalypt gum-tree appears to rise against the watery background. The chest X-ray taken from the teaching files is of a girl with a frequently fatal infection called melioidosis, that occurs in the tropics, acquired from soil and puddles. The image links the beauty of North Queensland, the Barrier Reef and the underlying menace of a rare but terrible disease.
