Chest 168; This

This picture contains three elements.

The first, the X-ray image, comes from the museum of a cardiac hospital showing a man with acute haemorrhage into the tissues of his lungs after a massive heart attack. Infiltration of blood into the tissues and air spaces obscures the structure of the lungs on the X-ray.

An image of a dusty Australian roadside in the late afternoon, in which the dust thrown up by a passing heavy goods road-train partially obscures the trees and landscape, overlies the X-ray.

The third is a fragmentary document, a faded, cracked, and broken warning sign in which only the word ‘this’  was legible, and it stands out clearly, the remainder of the message is obscured by time.

‘This’ denotes whatever is being referred to at the moment when the word is used. ‘This’ denotes the object of attention. Every time the word ‘this’ is used it denotes a different object, and the only constant in its use is the relationship between user and object.  In this image, ‘this’ is both object and self-referential; ‘this’ refers to ‘this’. This relationship is obscure.

    |Hola Tony! I am trying to catch up on WP though it’s only a partial success on this internet session.. your comment on my blog suggested that things weren’t the best over there on your side of the pond; i’ve been watching the weather, the storms and of course watching earthquake sites whenever we are near new or full moons, when the worst quakes seem to hit.

presently it’s raining really hard here in the cloud forest, though it’s the rainy season so it’s expected.. tomorrow i’ll drive back to the coast and will again be offline aside from a few hours at a cyber each week…

    hope all’s better now!

Hope things are going well for you. I watch the political shenanigans in Uruguay with some bemusement. My wife is pushing us to visit the country, it would be lovely so to do, and perhaps visit you at the same time.
        Cheerio, Tony

I was hoping that your online silence was for good reasons, and am so glad to know that your wife is well. I recall you mentioning some health challenges. When the smoke clears, literally, I hope that Ecuador remains the lovely country of good-hearted people that it’s always been. Thanks Tony, and it would be wonderful to meet both of you in person!

You have been on my mind so often, and your insight on this covid, as well as your talent with sharing those images would be a very interesting read… you are missed.

Thankyou so much. Much water has gone under the bridge since I last did any X-Ray art, I’ve missed it, but for a while things have been a bit crazy – funny how life overtakes us sometimes! God willing, inshalla, as they say in the Middle East I will be able to indulge myself again soon. Perhaps with an image of Covid, who knows?

It\s great to have a smoke signal – yay!!! And yes, a Covid post would be greatly received, most likely from many more people than just one lone gringita in Ecuador!!!! Thanks for the quick reply!
