Chest 93; Titania

This image was a challenge to pull together a variety of images to tell a story, the base X-ray was a child with bronchiolitis and a collapsed lung requiring ventilation. It is set over an Ivy hedge. Ivy is an herb, the leaves boiled and used to relieve bronchial conditions in children. I thought the people peeking through the leaves, derived from a street scene, reminded me of the little people. The title reference is to Titania in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream where Oberon sends Puck to pluck an herb – “Love in idleness” to place upon Titania’s eyes. In the centre of the picture is Titania herself and at the bottom is the herb which was “Before milk-white, now purple with love’s wound”. The colour and the orb are provided by African sunset photo donated by a friend (Mana Pools Zimbabwe) a beautiful and peaceful place, I wish I were there now…
