Ewan Races

26 May

This series of five pictures does not have an X-ray in it! These were taken at the Ewan Country Race meeting in Northern Queensland a couple of years ago. As an experiment I’ve rendered them in black-and-white with just a touch of colour in each. I’m asking for comments and suggestions on technique and choice of subject.

They look goo, Tony subtle but striking colour. The red shirt might be too strong. Your series explains all the different characters, it reminds me of the movie, “The Sting.”

OK Tony you asked for it 🙂 Studying the form works really well. The Belle I find the red/yellow a bit jarring, maybe if you made a third area (like the handbag) the same colour the eye would move around the image. At the moment my eye goes to the hats and stays there. Stable Boys is a great shot. The Punters I love that red! (It’s all in the eye of the beholder). The blacks in this shot are darker and really work with the red. The Race, I like how you have made only part of the track the same colour as the jockey. In all Tony a great series.
I love that each image is part of a seemingly introduction to the cast (for a play?) with each member or group about to play their part. You’ve captured the cast of the country race meeting to a T.

Thanks Lee, I really appreciate the comments! I’ll have another look at the girls. Cheers.

This series captures the excitement and buzz of Ewan races. I enjoy the jockeys relaxing in the background before their race. I love the touches of bright colour depicting everyone as they were, colourful, enthusiastic and hopeful. This is a series that I will keep returning to.

    Lieber Tony!

My dear Juergen, thankyou so much for your comments. As it should happen my favourite is the punters, though I also like the three boys. still, i think the set of five tells a story when viewed together. Thanks also for the comment on my abstract art – the X-rays – as you can guess, this is where my heart lies. It is good to have different approaches and techniques – as you too use. All the very best to you too. Tony

Tony there is only one question to ask yourself…..how do YOU feel about the images? If you really like what happened here….do MORE…..and MORE! Experiment and keep asking the same question. The art will guide you……
If you are really honest to YOUR authenic vision that is all that matters.
    PS……do like all these photographs!

Thanks so much, and that’s good advice. They have raised a storm of comments on Facebook; some for and others against. I liked them otherwise they wouldn’t have been published. And I still do. Your work is very much “out there” and I would like to emulate you. Your comment most appreciated.

Thanks Tony……anything you do some will like and some won’t. And if most don’t you are on your way to greatness……the tide always turns. Keep up the good work!
